Building in Time For Yourself
Life can get busy sometimes. Between your work, social, and family lives, there is often
little time left in your schedule for yourself. But building in time for yourself is important, for so
When you carve out time in your schedule for yourself, you’re giving yourself time to
relax, reflect, and recharge. This time also encourages productivity, creativity, and helps increase
your mental strength. When you don’t build in time for yourself, you aren’t giving yourself the
love and care that you deserve.
As you build in time for yourself, be sure to make it non-negotiable. You are worthy and
important! It’s so easy to say that you’re building in time for yourself – actually carrying out that
statement is the hard part. This is especially true for parents.
Dads have a tendency to be somewhat disconnected. If they want to take time for
themselves, it’s easy for them to do so. Moms, on the other hand, are a different story. Moms
often find every excuse possible to not take care of themselves. The more moms I meet, the more
I see the ugly guilt factor come into play. They also think they need to give, give, give – that they
don’t need to take care of themselves. But that is simply not true. It is essential for everyone to
take care of themselves.
Think of it this way – when you’re not building in time for yourself, what example are
your setting for your children? Your little ones look to you and your daily patterns to form an
understanding of what they should be practicing in their lives. If they see you exercising
regularly, they think this is a typical part of your routine. If you’re not giving time to yourself,
for yourself, they aren’t going to in the long run either.
Imagine you are a big, strong tree. Your children are small saplings, growing stronger
every day, but not yet as big as you are. And yet, your little saplings are still going to act like
fully-grown trees, right? Right. It’s okay to let yourself be the tree you want to be. By doing so,
you are setting an example for your saplings and showing them that they can grow into the trees
that they want to be too.
So the next time you consider passing up time you can set aside for yourself, don’t. Take
that time to do something completely for yourself. Not only because your little ones watching
you and your actions but also for your own mental strength and clarity. Remember, you are only
one person. And you are just as important as everything else in your life!
